SENIOR NIGHT BRINGS A FLOOD OF MEMORIES!
Click on the photo for a larger image View From The Stands tells me this was a night filled with mixed emotions. In the actual game, we were up against one of the strongest teams we've played all year ... so the scoreboard was officially Not Our Friend. But for Senior Night we were seeing the last regular-season outing for a group of six players--and three managers--who we've been with for Quite A While. In the end, the emotion that won us over was what we saw on the field: That's where we saw the type of determination, energy, heart and hustle that this team has displayed from day one. That's the character in this team. And we see it every game--from the opening tip off to the closing whistle!
-- Head. Heart. Hustle. That's Marshall Lacrosse. That's Marshall Pride.
-- Our Varsity had a tough, tough night. Division 6 Woodson has had only one loss this year in the ultra-competitive Liberty District, and they're ranked in the top 10 for all of Northern Virginia. Sure enough, we spent almost the entire game on the Wrong Side Of The Field. Ironically, View From The Stands tells me that our Statesmen were playing really well on defense--with a huge amount of determination and energy, every minute of the game. OK, so the Woodson offense was very strong. And they got their goals--16 of 'em before the night was done. But there was also some amazing defense out there. Played by some amazing Statesmen.
-- Speaking of which, halftime saw a well-earned sendoff to a terrific group of Seniors who have given their all--to Marshall and to the Marshall LAX Program. LSM Steven Nguyen, middies Matt Chamberlin and Ben Coyle, and of course our Co-captains Michael Born (Mid), Jonathan Chambers (Def) and Taylor Delean (Def) have all been a critical part of our program. And three of our Seniors--Born, Chambers and Nguyen--have been in the program all four years. A huge note of thanks also went out to the three Senior managers who have been such a key part of our lacrosse team (and several other Marshall sports as well!): Tommy Miossi, Emily Craig and Lauren Parkhurst.

    Thank you Seniors!
Oh, and the Second Annual Parent Shoot-Out? (Hehe! :-) Lacrosse balls were flyin' everywhere! View From The Stands was so busy ducking that he probably didn't get all the names right, but we think we saw Michael Born's Dad, Taylor Delean's parents, Matt Chamberlin's parents, Steven Nguyen's Dad, Ben Coyle's Mom, and Jon Chambers' Dad. The winning score was two, and I think it was a tie between Mrs. Delean and Mr. Nguyen. Trust me on this, you do not want to be in the line of fire when these parents wind up with a lacrosse stick in their hands. :-)
-- Now for next year what other skills can we add to the contest? Face-offs? (Probably not. :-) Ground balls? (OK, that would be fun. ;-) Then my own personal favorite--the poke check challenge! ... :-) ... OK maybe we'll stick with the Shoot Out. A great time was had by all!
-- Head. Heart. Hustle. Marshall Lacrosse. Thank you Seniors! THANK YOU STATESMEN!
