- Head Coach Adam Vasquez
Coach Vasquez is a graduate of George C. Marshall High School, where he earned
All-Region honors as a defenseman on the Statesmen lacrosse team. He played college
lacrosse at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA, where he was selected as Defensive Player
of the Year in 1999, his Senior year. After graduation, he returned to this area and
was asked to help coach defense at Oakton High School.
The Cougars have been a perennial Division 6 powerhouse in the Concorde District
and won the Virginia state championship three years in a row.
- Coach Rob Antonellis
Coach Antonellis, a defenseman originally from Londonderry, New Hampshire, played for
Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut from 1995 to 1997. In 1996 the Pioneers won the
ECAC conference championship and were ranked #4 in the nation. After graduating from Northeastern
University in Boston with a Masters degree, he arrived in Northern Virginia and began coaching in the
Vienna Youth Lacrosse program. From 2002 to 2005, Coach Antonellis's teams had a record of 32-6
and earned a place in the playoffs each year. Twice he was selected to coach the
Northern Virginia all-star team. In October 2005, Coach Antonellis was awarded the
Sacred Heart University Alumni "Pioneer Award" for outstanding contributions to the community,
and in 2006 he coached the varsity defensive squad at South Lakes High School.
Coach Antonellis is a senior analyst in the federal government and lives in Sterling with
his wife Julie, son Benjamin and daughter Alexis.
- Coach Alex Brown
Coach Brown is originally from Littleton, Massachusetts where he earned all-league honors as a
attackman at Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA ('95). He then traveled all the way to Portland, Oregon,
to play his college ball--at Lewis & Clark College where he was selected as All League Attack
all four years (Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League) and was the Pioneers' captain in his
senior year. After graduation Coach Brown worked in Europe for two years, then returned to the U.S.
in 2001, settling in Arlington. Since 2001 he has been playing club lacrosse in Arlington,
been a high school lacrosse referee, organized a national team for the Portland Laxworld Invitational,
and for two years was an Assistant Coach for the Lee Lancers. (Whew!)
To support this lavish indulgence in LAX, Coach Brown works a day job in securities, investments,
wearing a tie and going to meetings. (If his clients only knew how hard he can deliver a
poke check ... wow.)
- Coach Brad Chamberlain
Coach Chamberlain is a graduate of Oakton High School where he lettered in both lacrosse and wrestling.
He was a Goalie in the Cougars' extremely competitive and successful lacrosse program, which dominated
the Concorde District and Division 6 playoffs during those years and went on to win
two straight Virginia state championships.
On the wrestling mat for the Cougars, Coach Chamberlain was a standout in the Concorde District and
advanced to the Northern Virginia regionals.
After graduation he just couldn't leave the LAX field behind, so he began coaching 7th and 8th graders
in the Chantilly Youth Association. Now Coach Vasquez has asked him to coach the Goalies
(at both levels--JV and Varsity) for our Marshall Statesmen!
- Coach Doug Gehley
Coach Gehley is back again! Born in Arlington, VA, Coach Gehley attended Bishop O'Connell
in Arlington where he was a member of the track, soccer and football teams. Coach Gehley
attended the University of Virginia and ran track for 3 years, earning a Bachelor of Science
in Architecture. He met his wife, Lane Abernathy, while in Graduate School at Virginia Tech, and
he has two children. During the day Coach Gehley is a principal in the Architecture/Engineering
firm SmithGroup. He's also an active participant in the Marshall Boosters Club, and for the
last ten years he's been coaching Vienna Youth League teams in soccer, basketball ... and of course ...
lacrosse! For extra-credit fun, Coach Gehley used to SKYDIVE!
- Coach Thomas Grattan
Coach Grattan is a graduate of George C. Marshall High School, where he was twice named
Captain of our Varsity lacrosse squads (2002 and 2003), and selected as the
Most Valuable Player on Defense in 2003.
(An incredibly versatile athlete, Coach Grattan played quarterback, defensive end, and center
for the Statesmen football team, and lettered in track as well.)
He played college lacrosse at Washington & Lee in Lexington, VA, where
he played all four years for the highly-regarded Generals.
Washington & Lee has a terrific program with a storied history - they are perennial
contenders for the ODAC championship and routinely compete for a spot in the NCAA
Division III tournament. In 2004, Coach Grattan lettered as a freshman on the Generals' 14-4
squad that went undefeated in ODAC play, won the ODAC championship, and made it to the
quarterfinals of the Div. III championships. He received the TW Martin Award for
Spirit, Dedication and Desire at W&L, and was recognized as an Old Dominion Athletic Conference
Scholar Athlete.
- Coach Kevin Henry
Coach Henry grew up in Brick, New Jersey, and played lacrosse for a club team since his high school
didn't have a lacrosse team at the time. He came down to Northern Virginia to attend George Mason
University where he played for the Patriot's club team in the highly-respected National College
Lacrosse League. After graduating, Coach Henry played both indoor and club lacrosse for an adult league
until he decided to focus on coaching. He coached LAX youth leagues in Vienna from 2003-2005, then
in Alexandria in 2006. His teams made the playoffs in all four years, including his U-15 Alexandria
team in 2006. In his day job, Coach Henry works for Northrop Grumman Technical Services.
He and his wife Nishita have a lovely 17-month old daughter, Mira Ruth. (Oh wait, by the time
you read this, she's 18 months old. No 19. Yeesh, these kids grow up so fast!)
(Hope she plays defense! :-)
