free on the clear!

On a JV-only Monday night, the Statesmen JV lacrosse team took on and beat the Lancers from Lee. The game was tight for the entire first half - Marshall had a 2-1 lead at the halftime break - but it quickly opened up in the second half and the Statesmen went ahead 5-1. The coaches substituted freely in the beginning of the fourth quarter to get all of the 35+ players in, and hung on for a hard fought 5-3 victory.

Games Notes: Craig Murphy played in goal for the first 3 quarters, then was relieved by Matt Hia.

GAME QUESTIONS: OK, so I've got all these cool pictures, but the numbers are changing each game so I NEED YOUR HELP in figuring out who is who in all these pix! If you see yourself in these photos (or if you recognize your son in these photos) let me know and I'll update the page to attach the name to the photo.

The JV is now 2-0 for the first time in at least 5 years. They will face a tough obstacle in 10th-ranked Hayfield on Friday as they try to make it 3-0.

Hayfield is an away game - just a couple of miles down the road around the beltway - your support is really helpful so everyone come out and show your Marshall Pride! Go Statesmen!

OK, so it was a little dusty out there.

Dust? We don't care about no stinkin' dust! We're here to play!
BALL!

OK, forget the dust. If we wanna win, we have to
dig out every loose ball!

The Statesmen earn a 2-1 lead going into the half.

But the second half brought a fired up Statesmen offense.

The offense got on track and we started to
find the net.

Sound fundamentals - tough D, clear the ball cleanly, set up the O.

Zip it around the horn, take your shots and the goals will
take care of themselves.

We jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but you can't let up for a minute. Ya still
gotta get every loose ball!

Our goalie work was strong all night.

The play by the short sticks ...

... helped control the game as well. Gotta play tough on both sides of the ball.

As the fourth quarter starts we have a lead, but neither side is
backing down.

Tough defense - from start to finish.

Every loose ball is a chance for a turnover (good or bad).

Yikes! We've got a tiny jump - but the entire Lancers team is right behind!

Bring out the high heat! This was our final score on the night!

For your moment of Statesmen Zen, we put it all together ... the loose ball, the tough defense, the Marshall Pride
... and the dust :-) Sweet.
