JV RUNS STREAK TO 4-0! VARSITY LOSES A TOUGH ONE.

Coach Ohri celebrates the JV win!

On the road against South Lakes, the Statesmen LAX squads played to a hard-earned split. In the opener our JV Statesmen extended their amazing winning streak again, moving to 4-0 on the year. In the nightcap our Varsity squad ran into that monster Seahawks offense we've been hearing about so much this year.

(Photo caption? OK, so Coach Ohri lost his hat earlier in the game, but it sure was nice to see him finish with a smile. :-)

JV Game - The JV Lacrosse Statesmen won 5-2 over the Seahawks on a damp and drizzly night at South Lakes. We saw scores by Steven White (twice), Sam Mencarini, and a great breakaway score by defenseman Chris Newcomb. This was a full team victory with all our players contributing on the field. The JV Statesmen are now 4-0 on the season.

Varsity Game - The Seahawks jumped out to a 5-1 lead over the Statesmen as we opened up a dreary night at South Lakes. Marshall converted on a couple more scoring chances, but it was the South Lakes offense that really dominated tonight. (The Seahawks' high-flying offense has put up some monster numbers this year. 18 against Wakefield last weekend, and they even scored 7 in a loss to Herndon.) South lakes kept up the pressure all night, and the ball was on the wrong side of the field a lot.

Marshall scoring came from Pat Findaro (2 goals) and Aria Kavyani (1 goal). The final score was 11-3.

Thursday night, the Statesmen come back home for a Varsity-only night against Stone Bridge. It'll be hard fought all the way - come on out and support your Marshall Statesmen! Marshall Pride!

These are pictures from the JV game. Pictures from the Varsity game are on the Varsity Pix page!

As has happened a bunch this year with the JV, I've got all these cool pictures but the numbers are changing each game so I need your help in figuring out who's who in all the pix! If you see yourself in these photos (or if you recognize your son in these photos) let me know and I'll update the page to attach the name to the photo.

Lacrosse at it's purest. Hard hitting, great position, man on man,
long stick out front, and the short stick playing keep-away.
The defender is our own Chris Newcomb. The photo is pure LAX.

The Statesmen moved the ball well from the very beginning,
and we got a bunch of scoring chances early.

Sweet!

So after each score, the face-offs are critical. You battle for position but when you're
not watching, Sumgai sneaks in from the left to grab the pick-up off the ground!

Look closely in the middle of the picture ... the loose ball is about waist-high in the air as both teams converge!

These guys are big, but we've gotta stand our ground.
It's getting physical out here!

Sure it's physical but that's the Fastest Sport on Two Feet.
Neither squad gives an inch. Even as the Seahawks player
goes down, he's still got the ball. (For now :-)

After a pick-up, you've gotta clear outta there fast!

When you're playing D out there, you've gotta keep the stick
in position, and keep your feet moving!

And you've gotta close on the attacker to close off the lanes.

On attack, our Statesmen were moving the ball well and opened up some shooting room.
(Did I already mention how big the Seahawks players were? :-)
Little School Big Heart!

By pressing the attack, we frequently had the Seahawks defense back on their heels.
(If you ever wondered about the phrase "back on their heels," this is it.)

And some great close-in ball-hawking from our Statesmen!
(Nice scoreboard in the background, eh? :-)

The defense had to be crisp all night!

This is how you use a long stick!!

And when our defense got a take-away, we cleared out in a hurry!

The final score ended with a nice lead, but both teams played
all-out lacrosse to the final whistle! (Just as it should be.)

Tough hitting to the very end. And the Seahawks tried every angle
to get through the Statesmen D!

Definitely a scoreboard worth celebrating!
