STONE BRIDGE OFFENSE PUTS UP 16
Senior Co-Captain Aria Kavyani takes a quick step towards the ball
On Thursday night, the Bulldogs from Stone Bridge held off a
George-Mason-like comeback attempt by our Marshall Statesmen, and took the win by a
score of 16-8.
Our Statesmen returned from a long road trip to the friendly fences of Jimmy Miller stadium,
but the visitors played a terrific game and jumped out to a commanding 15-4 lead.
Our Statesmen offense has improved a lot over the past few games, but we just
couldn't keep up with that scoring pace. Still, Jake Oster led an amazing
comeback attempt - scoring four on the night and bringing us back part of the way.
As one parent put it, "he's so quick and nimble, can do so many things - just awesome."
Someone else highlighted the play of goalie Kevin Hia, who stood his ground
in the face of the Bulldog's high-pressure attack and made a lot of outstanding saves.
But the scoreboard at the end didn't lie. Stone Bridge played a terrific game
and took the 16-8 victory.
The leading scorer was Jake Oster with 4 goals and 1 assist. Pat Findaro was tonight's
Mr. Assist, gettings assists on 3 of our 8 goals and putting up 2 in the goals
category as well. Freshmen Matt Stonehill and Kevin Smith scored 1 goal apiece.
Ryan Jarriel and Aria Kavyani (in photo) rounded out the scoring with each getting an assist.
This was a Varsity-only night (Stone Bridge didn't bring a JV squad.) Both of
our squads will host the #2-ranked Cavaliers from Woodson on Monday.
These will be home games, so come on out to Jimmy Miller to watch your Statesmen
play. Marshall Pride!

The faceoffs were critical all night - and we fought hard from the very start.
Ouch ! - The Bulldogs break out for an early lead.
(I think we zigged when we should'a zagged :-)
That's Junior defenseman Mohammed Hussain #9 diving in for the loose ball!
Oh man, I knew it was gonna be a physical game!
Senior middie Philip Tuttle #18 has his eye on the loose ball.
Co-Captain Pat Findaro has a bead on ANOTHER
loose ball (whew!)
Did I mention the ball was loose a lot? Goalie Kevin Hia
gathers up this sky-high deflection.
And it got REALLY CROWDED in front of the Statesmen net.
Hia had to direct traffic AND keep an eye out for the sudden shots.
Crowded? Daniel Nguyen #25, Brian Ritchey #27 and Ben Yazman #1 do some
crowding of our own :-)
Oh man, I knew it was gonna be a physical game! :-)

Standing tall with the long stick out front
Trick photography, or do those long sticks really bend like that?
Kevin Hia sees this shot all the way
Senior defenseman Vince Reese #12 keeps pace with the
streaking attacker
Standing tall in goal - Wow!
Nice little snag, and then out of the box to clear!
If we're gonna try the comeback, we've gotta get EVERY loose ball -
and not turn anything over
#19 Pat Findaro winds up for a good scoring chance
Your moment of Statesmen Zen tonight comes from Co-Captain Jake Oster -
He shoots, he scores! Sweet.
