STATESMEN WIN BIG OVER THE SEAHAWKS
Sophomore attacker Sam Mencarini cuts sharp to the goal
|
{Varsity writeup is here. JV Pictures are below)
Another gorgeous night for lacrosse, and the Statesmen came out
like gangbusters.
The first quarter score in the Varsity game was something like 5-0 and I think the
score at halftime was 8-1. The rest of the game wasn't quite as high-scoring as the
first half, but it was exciting and hard fought all night long.
GREAT hitting, GREAT defense, TERRIFIC goalie work, and man we were hustling
hard on every single play. View From The Stands had a terrific time
out there at Jimmy Miller stadium tonight. (Thanks, everyone!)
The picture at left shows Sophomore attacker Sam Mencarini, cutting sharply to the
goal with a middie trying to block the lane. Sam was everywhere tonight - a roving
blur to everyone except our roving photographer, Mrs. Newcomb!
(Click on the image for a larger view of the un-cropped photo.)
Next Monday we're on the road against Woodson. The Cavs have a good squad
and this is gonna be a challenge.
Be there! Marshall Pride!
JV GAME: MARSHALL 9 - SOUTH LAKES 6
These are pictures from the JV game. Pictures from the Varsity game are

the Varsity Pix page!
Pre-game meet-and-greet at midfield - lookin' forward to a great night of LAX!

JV Head Coach Vik Ohri

Soph. short-stickman John Baker
|
Look for the ball JUST BESIDE the goalie's shoulder! (Great photo, Mrs. Newcomb!)
Man, when Big Brian Ritchie loads up for a shot like that, it's a monster
|
#4 Michael Born races upfield
|
Lightning fast and hard-hitting - it's The Fastest Sport on Two Feet!
#26 Daniel Nguyen, #1 Benjamin Yazman and #24 Drew D'Alfonso in the fray
|
That's Freshman Matthew Freedman
clearing up the sideline
|
SHOT! Freshman goalie Abdulelah Joharji keeps his eyes on the ball
while the Statesman D closes in
|
A hard-fought faceoff can get really crowded really fast
|
#13 Chris Newcomb chases down a
Seahawks attacker
|
That's Sophomore Carlos Arandia setting
up for a stint on defense
|
#8 Joshua Lee sneaks in for a backdoor cut.
(Notice that #21 doesn't
see him coming, but the goalie is watching him all the way.)
|
#9 Sam Mencarini faces a hefty long-stick
|
Sophomore Steven White sweeps left
|
Sometimes you've gotta run it out to
clear it - straight up the sideline
|
BALL !
|
#9 Sam Mencarini again on another pretty cut to the crease
|
#6 Jason Cheng locks out the big South Lakes attacker
Heart. Determination. Marshall Pride!
|
Sophomore Matthew Campbell carries the long stick
|
Sophomore Aniruddha Krishna wields the short stick
|
And that's Freshman Daniel Haugh about to start the ball after an out of bounds whistle
|
Long stick - short stick - pickin' up the loose ball is core skillz
|
Clearing is also core - even when the goalie runz it out himself :-)
|
Statesmen Ritchie, Newcomb, White, Joharji, Cheng
and Mohammed Hussain converge on the Fastest Sport on Two Feet!
I love this game!
