Langley High School, 4/21/06 --
STATESMEN FALL TO #2 LANGLEY IN DOWNPOUR
Co-Captain Jake Oster
winds up for a rain-soaked
shot!
|
On Friday night our Statesmen went on the road to take on
the #2 ranked team in the entire Northern Region.
The weather didn't exactly cooperate (OK, it absolutely poured :-),
but that did nothing to dampen the spirits of our Marshall Statesmen or of the
Statesmen faithful who braved the elements to cheer on our teams.
Langley has a monster offense this year, and the rain didn't slow 'em up a bit.
I don't have writeups, but the storyline I've gotten from the many parents and fans who braved the WX
is how hard our guys played, and the never-say-quit sense of determination.
(OK, I don't have the writeups, but I do have pictures. :-)
That's Co-Captain Jake Oster over on the left.
The JV game actually started before the rains did.
But the outcome reflected the strength of the Langley program from top to bottom.
By the time the Varsity hit the field, it didn't matter what the weather was doing.
Our squad was locked up in a terrific battle against one of the best LAX teams in
the entire state. We adjusted. We changed plans. We changed plays.
Small School Big Heart came out and played our best, but the final
score favored the Saxons.
The JV score was 12-2, the Varsity tally was 18-4.
These next few days are packed with lacrosse. The Varsity make-up game
against #3 Woodson is Monday. The regularly-scheduled game against McLean is Tuesday,
and then the season finale is Thursday against Madison.
Be there Statesmen fans!
VARSITY GAME: LANGLEY 18 - MARSHALL 4
These are pictures from the Varsity game.
Pictures from the JV game are
on the JV Pix page!
The coaches are a bit on the drenched side, but nothing will
lessen our Statesman resolve!
|
Oh wait ... did I mention it was raining? :-)
|
Here's today's starting lineup! #6 Kevin Hia, #20 Jonathan Chambers,
#25 Daniel Nguyen, #1 Ben Yazman, #21 Chris Guerin, #19 Pat Findaro, #8 David Warren,
#5 Kevin Smith, #10 Casey Williams and #4 Jake Oster
|
Seniors David Warren and Pat Findaro dig for the face-off!
|
The Langley long stick tries to strip the ball - and only
partially succeeds :-)
|
Co-Captain Pat Findaro unloads a shot on goal, but gets upended
on the play!
|
Senior middie Chris Guerin tries to find a passing lane
|
|
Junior Co-Captain Jake Oster is always a force on offense ...
|
Whether taking a shot or setting up the cutter, Jake is always
in the mix!
|
Freshman Sam Newland gets a great shot on goal. Even though the
shot jams him tight to the body, the Saxons goalie makes a terrific save!
|
Jake outruns the Saxons defender to keep possession after a
Statesman shot sails long!
|
Fastest Sport on FOUR FEET? :-)
|
The checking was relentless whenever
we got the ball in their zone. Here,
Senior Casey Williams tries to create
some passing space.
|
BALL! Jake is close, but the Saxons' defender has the first
step ...
|
The Langley defense bolts out for a breakaway clear!
Jake Oster moves in to cover, but for the most part the Saxons had success in
clearing fast, clearing clean, and keeping the ball buried deep
on our side of the field.
|
It's definitely crowded out front, but this time Kevin Hia
has a clear view of the shot and makes the save!
|
We try a breakaway clear of our own, but like I said before ...
the Saxons pressed the attack on
our side of the field for most of the night.
|
It was a long night our here - quite literally. With the ball
on our side of the field so much, there was almost no chance to rest
for our Statesman long sticks.

|
#12 Vince Reese was tireless on defense - Vinsanity was
always ready to mix it up and show the Marshall Pride
that he's so well known for!
|
#28 Nima Khalilian joins Vince in blocking out the attackers,
but Langley's high-powered offense had a great night tonight.
Still the Statesmen played with pride and determination.
|
Your moment of Statesmen Zen tonight shows the Marshall Pride.
Face to face against a terrific attack,
we never hesitate, never falter, never blink.
Small School Big Heart doesn't always win, but it never
gives anything but 100%!
