McLean High School, 4/25/06 --
JV BEATS MCLEAN, VARSITY FALLS
Playing just one day after the Woodson game, our Statesmen traveled to McLean.
The Varsity fell by a score of 16-3, but the JV improved their record on the season
to five and three. The score in the JV game was Statesmen 7, Highlanders 3.
This is quite a schedule that the weather has handed us. After coming back from
Spring Break and waiting for the monsoons to slip by, we're playing 5 games in
just 10 days! And the teams we're playing? Wow.
The Liberty District is shaping up to be a Northern Virginia powerhouse
just like it was in 2005. OK, so Liberty has smaller schools than the other Districts,
but it also has more LAX tradition. Three of LAXPower's Northern Virginia Top Ten
are from the Liberty District (second only to the Division 6 Concorde).
And with #8 Hayfield on our schedule as well, Marshall is playing four of those ten.
(Where's the RPI when you need it? :-)
Two days from now we're on the field again - it's the Madison game!
At home. And it's Senior night. Be there Statesmen fans!
Marshall Pride!
VARSITY GAME: MCLEAN 16 - MARSHALL 3
These are pictures from the Varsity game.
Pictures from the JV game are
on the JV Pix page!
Here's today's starting lineup! #6 Kevin Hia,
#12 Vince Reese, #8 David Warren, #1 Ben Yazman, #20 Jonathan Chambers, #21 Chris Guerin,
#19 Pat Findaro, #16 Matt Stonehill, #14 Aria Kavyani and #4 Jake Oster
|
The face off starts with a break for the ball!
|
Oops ... the face off starts with a bang! :-)
|
And right away we're on defense. Senior Co-Captain Aria Kavyani
protects!
|
|
|
Ouch! What was it that starts with a bang?
This game started physical and neither squad gave an inch all night!
|
David Warren, Vince Reese and Nima Khalilian
guard the crease!
|
Sophomore Ryan Jarriel takes up a strong
defensive stance!
|
The Highlanders pressed the attack and kept the ball
on our side of the field a ton. Chris Guerin joins Nima, Vince and Jonathan Chambers
on D, but the attacker still gets off a high shot (check it out - top-middle of
the picture)!
|
Kevin Hia was tough in goal ... and he saw a LOT of work out there!
|
As always, the loose balls are critical - Jake Oster and
Jonathan dig to pick up the face off!
|
David Warren grabs the loose ball ...
|
... then turns and busts loose for a long breakaway!
|
It gets plenty messy out in front of the Highlanders goal
|
Casey Williams settles things down
and directs the attack
|
Co-Captain Pat Findaro lets fly with a blistering low shot that
bounces high off the ground. Those are hard to handle - it was a quality chance -
but this time it bounces wide.
|
We took a good shot, but the Highlanders quickly clear!
Jake and #24 Michael Born give chase, but McLean is on the run!
|
Your moment of Statesmen Zen tonight shows you the
rules for ball control and possession. Dig for everything and play hard
every minute. Marshall Pride!
